Evans joins the list of past Sexiest Men, such as George Clooney, Tom Cruise, Michael B. Jordan, Brad Pitt, Idris Elba and last year’s ageless winner, Paul Rudd. (Here’s an explanation of how the magazine makes its annual pick.) “The Gray Man” and “Knives Out” star, 41, reportedly came close to the title a few times. He also told People magazine that discussing the honorific felt like “a weird form of humble bragging.” |

Evans is a follower of Buddhism.[131][132] He is a fan of the New England Patriots, and narrated the documentary series America’s Game: The Story of the 2014 New England Patriots and America’s Game: 2016 Patriots.[133][134] While filming Gifted in 2015, Evans adopted a dog named Dodger from a local animal shelter.[135] In 2022, he was named the “Sexiest Man Alive” by People magazine.[136]
Political views
Evans affirmed his support for same-sex marriage in 2012, stating, “It’s insane that civil rights are being denied people in this day and age. It’s embarrassing, and it’s heartbreaking. It goes without saying that I’m completely in support of gay marriage. In ten years we’ll be ashamed that this was an issue. In August 2016, he supported Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey‘s continued enforcement of the state’s ban on assault weapons.[138] Evans endorsed Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election,[139] and was critical of Donald Trump’s presidency.[13][140]
After Alabama enacted the Human Life Protection Act in May 2019, which imposes a near-total ban on abortions in the state, Evans called the bill “absolutely unbelievable” and continued by writing, “If you’re not worried about Roe v. Wade, you’re not paying attention.”[141] In July 2020, he launched A Starting Point, a website that publishes short interviews of American elected officials on political issues, with a goal of presenting “both the Democratic and Republican point of view on dozens of issues across the political landscape.”[142][143] In October, Evans took part in a virtual fundraising event in support of Joe Biden in his 2020 presidential campaign.[144] He endorsed Maya Wiley in the 2021 New York City Democratic mayoral primary.

If you were to tell a middle school-aged Chris Evans that he would one day be named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive, “he’d be pumped!” the star tells the magazine in this week’s cover story. “This would probably be the road to the cool table which I was not at.

Captain America actor Chris Evans was named People Magazine’s “sexiest man alive” for 2022 on Monday, following his Marvel co-star Paul Rudd having the title in 2021. Chris, who is 41 and single, said the title “feels like a weird form of humble bragging.” However, he was eager to share the news with his biggest fan – his mom. “My mom will be so happy,” Chris told People in an interview. “She’s proud of everything I do but this is something she can really brag about.”

Incidentally, talk of Evans’ breakout role in 2011’s “Captain America: The First Avenger” also made headlines over the weekend when “Succession” star Jeremy Strong told the Sunday Times that he almost played the Marvel star’s body double in the prequel film.
“They needed someone to play Captain America’s young body, before he turns into a superhero,” said. Strong, who went to high school with Evans. “They said they needed a transformational actor and would use CGI to put the actual actor’s face and voice over my own.”
While Strong turned down the role — even though he admitted he was “broke” at the time — Evans responded by saying, “It just goes to show the industry is so unpredictable. But I’m so happy things worked out, because I don’t think there was ever plan B for Jeremy.”
In 2011 Evans first played the character with whom he is perhaps most identified, the earnest World War II enlistee who becomes Captain America, in Captain America: The First Avenger. He reprised the role in a number of subsequent blockbusters: The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).In addition to pursuing his career as Captain America, Evans gave an electrifying performance as a drug-addicted lawyer in Puncture (2011), based on real events. He also won praise for his layered portrayal of a rebel leader in Bong Joon-Ho’s dystopian fable Snowpiercer (2013) and as the unconventional guardian of a math prodigy in Gifted (2017). Evans made his directorial debut with the romance Before We Go (2014), in which he also starred. In 2018 Evans first appeared on Broadway, in a well-received performance as a veteran cop in Kenneth Lonergan’s Lobby Hero. He was later cast as the spoiled and obnoxious son of a deceased patriarch in Rian Johnson’s Knives Out (2019), a classic murder mystery that was a box-office hit. He also played the father of a murder suspect in the TV serial Defending Jacob (2020). In the animated Lightyear (2022), a spin-off of Pixar’s popular Toy Story series, Evans voiced the character of Buzz Lightyear. His other credits from 2022 include the spy thriller The Gray Man, in which he portrayed a villainous former CIA agent.
