By India Today Web Desk: Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has opened up about his true feelings towards rival Lionel Messi and said that the Argentinian maestro is like a teammate to him.

Messi vs Ronaldo has been considered to be one of the greatest rivalries in world football and fans have always tuned in to watch when both men face each other at club level.

Both men have shown great respect toward each other on and off the pitch and now Ronaldo has revealed his true feelings about Messi.

Speaking to Piers Morgan in an interview, the 37-year-old heaped praise on his Argentinian counterpart and said that he is an amazing player and claimed that they share a great relationship. While Ronaldo admitted that they aren’t great friends off the pitch, he said that he always likes how Messi talks about him in public and said the PSG forward is a great guy who has done great things for the sport.

“Amazing player is magic, top… As a person, we share the stage 16 years, imagine, 16 years. We share. So, I have great relationship with him. I’m not friend of him in terms of, what I mean friend is the guy who was with you in your house, speaking on the phone, no, but it’s like a teammate.”

“He’s a guy that I really respect the way he always speak about me. Even his wife or my wife, my girlfriend, they always respect and they’re from Argentina. My girlfriend is from Argentina. So good. What I am going to say about Messi? A great guy who does great things for football,” said Ronaldo.

Aregntina is in Group C alongside Saudi Arabia, Mexico, and Poland while Portugal is in Group H with Uruguay, Ghana, and South Korea.

Football fans around the globe are hoping to see both Messi and Ronaldo fight it out in the final of the tournament.
