By India Today Web Desk: Former West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo penned a heartfelt note to his good friend and former teammate, Kieron Pollard after the latter announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League. Bravo recalled how the young all-rounder had joined Mumbai Indians in 2010 and went on to dominate one of the toughest T20 leagues going around.

Kieron Pollard brought an end to his glorious 12-year-long career on Tuesday, November 15, saying he had taken the call to retire after having had discussions with the Mumbai Indians over his future. Pollard’s decision came hours ahead of the retention deadline wherein 10 teams announced their list of released players.

Notably, Dwayne Bravo was also not retained by Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-auction.

Incidentally, Bravo had revealed how he had told the Mumbai Indians team management about Pollard when the latter was in India to play the Champions League T20 in 2010. Bravo had urged MI to sign Pollard and that the team’s co-owner Nita Ambani had always been grateful to him for the move.

“To my best friend, my teammate, and opponent 13 years ago I had a very small part play in introducing you to arguably one the most successful ipl teams @mumbaiindians. I saw you grow from a little boy from Maloney and then go to India to dominate the toughest t20 league. You became a household name around the world,” Bravo wrote in his Instagram post.

“LLORD I salute you on a fantastic career wish you all the best in your next chapter as it’s a sad day for you and your fans but we also celebrate what you have achieved. I feel proud as your friend and to write this message,” he added.

Pollard scored 3412 runs and picked up 69 wickets for Mumbai Indians during his 12-year stint. MI team management backed Pollard and retained him for Rs 6 crore ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction but the all-rounder was not able to live up to the expectations last season, managing just 144 runs in 14 matches.

Pollard will continue his association with Mumbai Indians as he will return as their batting coach in IPL 2023. On the other hand, it remains to be seen if Bravo will bag an IPl contract for 2023.
