FIFA World Cup 2022: France striker Karim Benzema ruled out of tournament due to thigh injury
France suffered a major setback on Saturday as star striker Karim Benzema was ruled out of the FIFA World Cup 2022 due to a thigh injury. Benzema was forced to pull out after an MRI scan revealed that he suffered a femoral rectus injury which would need a recovery period of three weeks.

By India Today Web Desk: Defending champions France suffered a major blow ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2022 with Karim Benzema being ruled out of the tournament due to a thigh injury.
The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner suffered the injury during training and was forced to pull out of the session. Reports were circulating at the time that his participation in the World Cup could be under serious threat.
Now, the France Football Federation has confirmed the news that Benzema will not be taking part in the World Cup in Qatar in a statement on their website.
They said that the Real Madrid striker was hit in the quadriceps of the left thigh. An MRI scan confirmed that he had a femoral rectus injury which would require a recovery period of three weeks.

“Hit in the quadriceps of the left thigh, the Real Madrid striker is forced to give up participating in the World Cup. Karim Benzema was forced to cut short the collective training session after feeling pain in the quadriceps of his left thigh.”
“He went for an MRI at a hospital in Doha, which unfortunately confirmed a femoral rectus injury, which will require a three-week recovery period.
“After having exchanged with Dr. Franck Le Gall then the Real Madrid striker, Didier Deschamps recorded Karim Benzema’s package for the World Cup.”
France manager Didier Deschamps said that he felt extremely sad for Benzema as the World Cup was his major goal. Deschamps went on to say that he has full confidence in the team despite the latest setback.
“I am extremely sad for Karim who made this World Cup a major goal. Despite this new blow for the French team, I have full confidence in my group. We will do everything to meet the huge challenge that awaits us,” said Deschamps.
France’s injury curse continued on Saturday with the latest victim being Benzema. They were already without Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante. Presnel Kimpembe also failed to get fit in time for the tournament and was forced to pull out. The defending champions also lost Christopher Nkunku to an injury as they were preparing for the tournament a few days ago.
