FIFA World Cup: Argentina call Angel Correa to replace injured Nico Gonzalez
Argentina forward Nicolas Gonzalez has been ruled out of the World Cup after suffering a muscle injury. Angel Correa of Atletico Madrid will take his place.

By India Today Web Desk: Argentina players Nicolas Gonzalez and Joaquin Correa have been ruled out of the FIFA World Cup due to injuries, according to the Argentine Football Association (AFA).
Gonzalez of Fiorentina has been replaced by Angel Correa of Atletico Madrid, while Thiago Almada of Atlanta United, a Major League Soccer team in the United States, will replace Inter Milan striker Joaquin Correa. The Argentine Football Association (AFA) announced on Thursday that Gonzalez was injured during the team’s first training session in Doha.
Gonzalez has been suffering from physical ailments since October. He also did not play in the final pre-World Cup friendly against the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday.
Gonzalez shared the starting spot with veteran Angel Di Maria. Correa, who plays for AtlÃ©tico de Madrid and was a member of the Copa America winning team last year, had fought for a spot on the team.
Argentina’s opening World Cup match is against Saudi Arabia on Nov. 22.
The Copa America champions are also sweating on the fitness of defender Christian Romero and forwards Alejandro Gomez and Paulo Dybala, all of whom were left out of Argentina’s last warm-up match on Wednesday.
