By India Today Web Desk: A Senegal official has confirmed that Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane will miss the first few games of the team’s campaign at the FIFA World Cup.

Mane suffered the injury during Bayern’s match with Werder Bremen. The 30-year-old striker was forced to limp off the field after just 20 minutes on the field with the Bavarians going on to win the game 6-1.

Bayern’s assistant coach Dino Toppmoeller had said at that time that Mane was hit on the leg and it caused a little nerve pain and it wasn’t serious.

“Sadio Mane was hit on the leg, which caused him a little nerve pain. Nothing too serious and his participation in the World Cup should not be in jeopardy,” Toppmoeller told reporters.

At that time, Bayern Munich coach Julien Nagelsmann had said that more scans would be needed to see the severity of the injury. In the following days, it was first said that Mane wouldn’t play at the World Cup but he was eventually added to the squad that will make the trip to Qatar.

Now, Senegal official Abdoulaye Sow has confirmed that Mane will not be playing the first few games for Senegal in the World Cup because of the injury. Sow went on to say that the injury to the 30-year-old striker was the last thing the team wanted at the moment.

“We will have to rely on playing the first games without Sadio and win without Sadio because we have 25 players apart from Sadio,” official Abdoulaye Sow said.

“No one would have wanted it, but that’s what’s happened to us.”

Senegal are in Group A with the Netherlands, hosts Qatar and Ecuador. They are set to start their campaign against the Dutch on 21st November. Senegal would then take on Qatar on 25th November and finish off their group stage games with a tie against Ecuador.
