By India Today Web Desk: Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has come out in support of Cristiano Ronaldo amid growing unrest between the player and Premier League club Manchester United. Ronaldo, a talisman for the English club seems to be burning a lot of bridges at his second spell in the club, where he has called out the manager Erik ten Hag, former players Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney as well as the owners – the Glazers family.

In an explosive interview with Piers Morgan, of which only snippets have been released, Ronaldo has accused the club of conspiring to throw him out. The Portuguese legend, widely considered as one of the greatest players of all time has been left furious with United, which he has listed in the latest interview.

Pietersen, who had his career cut short after multiple controversies in the English dressing room said that he had been in the same situation before and it was possible for players to come out in criticism after reaching their breaking point.

“I’ve watched this CR story and having been in a similar position, I sympathise with him. People have NO IDEA what it’s like to have constant lies and speculation written about them all the time. People having breaking points. Very easy to blame him but before you do, think,” Pietersen said over Twitter.

Ronaldo has faced flak for his attitude at United this year. The player first skipped pre-season due to personal issues, then threw public tantrums in the stadium after not starting in the XI. Ronaldo had a wide smile on his face after Anthony Martial was forced to walk off the pitch due to injury, an act that did not sit well with many experts of the game.

Manchester United released their official statement after the drama unfolded and said that they will take a call on the matter after every detail had come out from the interview.
