No export duty on iron ore, steel – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The government on Friday decided to do away with export duty on iron ore and several steel products, reversing its earlier decision to impose the levy amid soaring prices. Iron ore and steel were among sectors where exports too had slowed down, bringing down overall exports in October by over 16%, the first fall in nearly 20 months.
On Friday, the government decided to abolish export duty on iron ore lumps and fine and pellets. The export of pig iron and steel products classified under some of the headings will also attract nil export duty. Anthracite/PCI & coking coal and ferronickel will attract import duty of 2.5% now, while coke and semi coke will attract 5% import duty.
The government had imposed curbs on wheat and steel in summer, amid rising inflation. Then there were checks on export of certain types of rice. Earlier this month, TOI had reported about the review of the export curbs on steel and rice.
