By India Today Web Desk: Chennai SuperKings captain MS Dhoni made a major promise to his fans and supporters of the franchise last year as he said that his last T20 game will be in the iconic Chepauk stadium.

Dhoni and his connection with Chennai is well documented as the former India skipper has turned up in yellow for all IPL seasons apart from the two where the franchise was banned from the tournament.

Ever since announcing his international retirement, people have been wondering when Dhoni would do the same in the IPL. And a year ago, the CSK skipper calmed his fans by telling them that he plans to play his final T20 game in Chennai. However, he didn’t give away which year he would decide to finally hang up his boots.

The franchise decided to post a nice throwback video of Dhoni’s famous words which you can see below:

Many thought that the CSK captain had played his final IPL season this year and during the final match against Rajasthan Royals, he was quizzed about it. Dhoni was quick to squash the rumors and said that it would be unfair not to play in Chennai and say thank you to the fans and told everyone that he would be a part of the franchise next year as well.

“Definitely. It’s a simple reason.. it will be unfair to not play in Chennai and say thank you. Mumbai is one place, where as a team and as an individual, I have got a lot of love and affection. But it wouldn’t be nice to the CSK fans.

“And also, hopefully, next year there will be an opportunity where the teams will be travelling so it will be a like thank you to all the different places where we will be playing games at different venues. Whether it will be my last year or not that’s a big question, because you know we can’t really predict something two years down the line, but definitely I’ll be working hard to come back strong next year.
