By India Today Web Desk: Barcelona forward Raphinha has claimed that he will repeat his Leeds United celebration if Brazil is able to lift the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
The Brazilian, who joined Barcelona in the summer, had famously crawled on his knees the entire length of the pitch when Leeds United secured Premier League survival last season.
Speaking to Marca on Tuesday, Raphinha said that he doesn’t see the World Cup as pressure, as a team like Brazil should always be fighting for the top honours in any competition. He also said that the demand from fans is normal.
I don’t see it as pressure. A team like Brazil must always be fighting for the title of any competition. The demand from the fans is normal because we are a high-quality team, with big names and players who are in big clubs and it’s normal for the fans to be anxious to win our sixth championship. I don’t remember much of 2002 because I was still very young. My best memories are the incredible and indescribable feeling. Now is a good time for us to hug each other again,” said Raphinha.
When asked about how he would react if Brazil won the World Cup, the winger said he would try to recreate his iconic celebration and crawl the length of the field on his knees.
“I have not thought about anything if we are champions, but now is a good moment. If we are champions I will do the same as when I managed to stay with Leeds, that I crossed the entire field on my knees,” said Raphinha.
Speaking on his preparations for the upcoming tournament, Raphinha said that he is ready for the World Cup and is working hard to arrive in Qatar in the best possible way both physically and mentally.
“I am prepared for the World Cup and I am working hard to arrive in the best possible way both physically and mentally. I did not participate in Russia 2018 and, therefore, I do not know the atmosphere that was there or the one that was before my arrival. The atmosphere that exists today is that of a winning, ambitious team that wants to win the title. I see the team with joy, responsibility and hard work,” said Raphinha.
