UPSC busts fake claims by 2 of clearing civil services exam; mulls criminal action | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Taking a firm stance against two candidates who took the Civil Services Exam 2022 and recently made false claims in the media that they had been recommended to all-India services on basis of the exam, the UPSC on Friday said it was contemplating criminal and disciplinary action against both the candidates after its probe found them to have forged their documents to buttress their claims.
Ms Aysha Makrani d/o Salimmuddin Makrani from Alirajpur, Madhya Pradesh, and Tushar from Rewari, Haryana had claimed to have cleared CSE 2022 by posing as genuinely-selected candidates with similar names – Ayasha Fatima from Dewas, Madhya Pradesh, and Tushar Kumar from Bihar respectively – and quoting the same roll number as the latter.
The confusion as to who was the genuinely-selected candidate between them, was widely reported in the media, with UPSC being blamed for the alleged “error”.
On Friday, UPSC put out a statement, clarifying that the claims of Aysha Makrani and Tushar were fake and that they had forged their documents to back these claims. “By doing so both Ms. Aysha Makrani and Shri Tushar have acted in contravention of the provisions of the Rules of the Civil Services Examination, 2022 notified by the Government of India. Therefore, in accordance with the provisions of the examination rules, the UPSC is contemplating both criminal as well as disciplinary penal action against both candidates for their fraudulent acts,” it stated.
UPSC said its examination system “is robust as well as fool-proof and such errors are not possible”.
A probe conducted by UPSC into the conflicting claims on identity of Roll no 7811744 and Roll No 1521306 found that they were actually borne by Ayasha Fatima d/o Naziruddin from Dewas, Madhya Pradesh and Tushar Kumar s/o Ashwini Kumar Singh from Bihar, both of whom have cleared the examination. Aysha Makrani, who claimed to have secured 184thrank by quoting her Roll no as 7805064, was in fact allotted Roll non 2208860 and had failed to clear even the Preliminary Examination stage by scoring 21.09 marks in General Studies Paper II against the required 66 marks. Similarly, Tushar, allotted Roll No 2208860, did not clear Prelims, having scored just 44.73 marks in General Studies Paper II.
UPSC on Friday confirmed that Ms Ayasha Fatima, d/o Naziruddin and bearing Roll No 7811744 and Tushar, s/o Ashwini Kumar Singh and bearing Roll No 1521306, had secured 184th rank and 44th rank respectively in the final result of the Civil Services Examination, 2022.
Slamming various media outlets for “irresponsibly” reporting the news on Aysha Makrani and Tushar’s fraudulent claims, UPSC said media should have first verified with it the genuineness of their claims.
