WhatsApp India head, Meta’s policy chief quit – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The exodus of top management at the India unit of US social media giant Meta continues. After the exit of the country head Ajit Mohan who is set to join rival Snap, the head of WhatsApp in India Abhijit Bose and Meta’s public policy chief here Rajiv Aggarwal have also resigned.
The development comes amid a global layoff exercise in the company. It has fired 11,000 people across the globe.
The company said that India public policy will now be headed by Shivnath Thukral, who is currently serving as director of WhatsApp public policy in the country.
“I want to thank Abhijit Bose for his tremendous contributions as our first head of WhatsApp in India. His entrepreneurial drive helped our team deliver new services. There is so much more WhatsApp can do for India and we’re excited to continue helping advance India’s digital transformation,” Will Cathcart, head of WhatsApp, said.
Bose had joined WhatsApp as the first country head in India in February 2019. Bose said that the week has been a tough one for all teams at WhatsApp. “Amid all of this, I just shared some news. It has been planned for a while, but given the events last week, we wanted to hold this back so we could focus on supporting those impacted last week,” he said. Bose added he will be joining “the entrepreneurial world” after a small break.
Meta said that it remains deeply committed to India.
